  • I would like to point out that while my area is among THE noisiest on the map, my specific neighborhood is dark yellow, making it quieter than many of the surrounding neighborhoods. I think it is the lack of adjacent highways.

  • § Being in a rural area, the map shows me in a fairly quiet area. But when the planes are flying around Fort Dix, because there are homes all around the area, the volume gets pretty loud outside. But it never affects indoor listening.

  • Hello fellow Audiophiles,

The Connecticut Audio Society (CAS) is holding a special club meeting with live music at 12 noon, Saturday June 3, 2017 in Fairfield CT. We are inviting you, interested audiophiles from nearby clubs, to join us as our guest. Fairfield CT is off exit 22 of RT 95 (then use your GPS). Exit 22 is 22 miles from the NY/CT border. If interested all we ask is that you RSVP by Friday 5/26/17 so that we can assure having enough food available. Lunch will be served as with all our regular meetings. Each audiophile club member, CAS & those from area clubs, can also bring their significant other. Just include them in your RSVP.

Our guest presenter for this meeting is Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame keyboard player Mark Naftalin. Mark was an original member of the legendary Paul Butterfield Blues Band. He will intersperse his playing with stories of his years in the music business. His talents include recording, producing and editing.

Mark has also recorded with other artists, some of whom include:
Duane Allman, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Michael Bloomfield, Brewer & Shipley ("One Toke over the Line"), Roy Brown, Canned Heat, James Cotton, Paul Gabriel, Robben Ford & the Ford Blues Band, John Lee Hooker, Percy Mayfield, Van Morrison, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Peter, Paul & Mary, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Roy Rogers, Otis Rush, Big Joe Turner, and Bill Wyman.

Mark will be performing on the Steinway grand piano at The First Congregational Church in Fairfield CT. Take RT 95 North, get off at exit 22, and put the following address into your GPS: 148 Beach Road, Fairfield CT. Suggest allowing enough time for weekend traffic. If you arrive early please don’t enter church before noon.

RSVP’s to Barry Berkowitz by email bbco1@att.net or by phone 203 219 5189.

    Regards,

    Barry Berkowitz
    Secretary CAS

  • I have had a pair of New Large Advent Utility Loudspeakers since I got them as a High School graduation present in 1978 ($148 the pair at Tech Hifi on sale). They have been sitting in my den, deteriorating, for about 25 years. Since our March meeting was near the PA home of MillerSound, Bill LeGall's speaker restoration company, I decided to drop them off for restoration.

I could not be happier with the results. For about $125, Bill re-foamed the woofers, cleaned the tweeter level switches, repaired some of the vinyl veneer that was peeling or chipped, and patched up a rip in one of the grills.

They look much better than before, and sound really good. Hearing them working so well brought back memories of when I first had a decent stereo in my room. Bill is really easy to deal with, and the turn around time for the repair was just one week.

These are not in my big rig, but they have a lot of sentimental value to me, so I am really happy that they have been restored and now work very well.

I highly recommend MillerSound for speaker restoration services.

I am not affiliated in any way with MillerSound, other than being a customer. This post is not a NJAS endorsement of MillerSound.

  • § I have used Millersound many times over the years and sent many friends there. I have been there twice when I was in big rush to get my Alon woofers fixed.
BTW he is also an expert on vintage Infinity speakers.
Also think I told Phil about him.

  • Just an FYI: Best Buy-Magnolia is dropping Sonus Faber (my brother was told S-F could not keep up with the demand from Magnolia). My brother snagged a brand new pair of Venere 2.5 towers for $2,000, $500 off list. Whatever stock might still be in Best Buy-Magnolia stores might be had at similar discounts.
