    Society member has a rack mount Marantz 10B that has been sitting unused for quite some time. He is looking for someone who can check it out, possibly re-tube and realign. Someone who specializes in tuners and not a repair person.

  • Exciting news!
    The Vintage Hi-Fi museum is a reality and you are invited to the Grand Opening in West Hartford, CT.
    (see attached flyer)

    1) Don’t worry if you cannot make the GO West Hartford in two weeks; we will open on Saturdays 10 am to 4 pm or by appointment.

    2) Please be patient with our GO as this is just the beginning. There is a lot of work to accomplish and Volunteers are needed to move forward with our goals & vision. Also, we will have a lot of quality items to sell, even used vinyl records!

    3) Let us know (via email), what you wish to learn or see regarding “analog audio”.
    For example:

    HiFi clinic
    history (equipment and / or inventors)
    record player or reel-to-reel basics and beyond
    equipment restoration and testing (tubes, cartridges, output power, etc)
    A/B evaluation for comparison testing
    library of books, magazines, & articles (all related to high fidelity)

  • As you may recall from an earlier post on this wall, I had a 6.5" car speaker that required refoaming. I chose Simply Speakers in Florida to do the work. Based on their web site, I expected to pay $32 plus shipping for the work. Initially, they tried to charge me $50. When I sent them two of their own web pages that stated the price for McIntosh 6.5" speaker refoaming is $32, they compromised at $40. I wasn't going to argue over $8, but if they are going to run a web-based business, they should at least update their prices, or ask customers to call or email for a quote. The work looks neat, so I can recommend them based on their workmanship. But be sure to get a price quote prior to shipping them any speakers for repair.

  • § Humm, that's curious. I used them once for a repair of my Monsoon woofer because no replacement was available. They fixed it good for the quoted price of $25 total. But it took at least three weeks. I would also recommend Speaker Works in Tulsa. They rebuilt my Dahlquist woofers and also redid the rolled edge on the midrange by using rubber from a different brand speaker. The original was no longer available. I was happy with their work and no price problems.
